“Address Climate Disaster Issues,” says Letter by Google Workers

Climate disaster has to be addressed by Google, say workers of the company.

In an online petition signed by about 1,000 workers, Google employees have asked the company to make various changes so that important issues like misuse of company work and climate change are avoided.

Three main issues have to be addressed, say the staff at Google. Greenhouse gas emissions have to be cut down, fossil fuel contracts have to come to an end and funding to top officials who are working against climate action should be taken, are the three conditions. About 1,495 workers at Google have written a letter to Google asking them to address these issues.

Greenhouse gas emissions have to be cut off, say Google workers. Steps have to be taken to control such emissions to zero levels by 2030.  Google employees have asked Ruth Porat, the Chief Financial Officer at Google, to bring an end to all activities related to damaging the environment, in the letter addressed to her.

Further, the company has been asked to end its contract with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection as they are oppressing the refugees. Further sexual misconduct is rampant within the company and this is a problem that has to be addressed, says the letter. Contracts involved in extracting fossil fuels will also have to be looked into.

Users should be given top priority says Google workers.

Google is providing cloud computing services to various customers. There are many energy and oil companies using Google services, but such companies oppose action taken against climate change, and the workers ask Google to avoid such contracts with them.

Many other tech companies are also involved in this campaign. Companies like Amazon and Microsoft have also joined hands in the Global Climate Change.

In a letter to CEO Jeff Bezos, Amazon workers have asked him to bring in changes addressing the same issues in the company.
